Symphonic Memories is a poetic meditation on the nature of human memory. Citizens of Lisbon share the same spaces, yet see them all differently. Historical and personal events can be very subjective. The only thing better than a fireworks show is a fireworks competition. (Leslie Horn - Gizmodo.) The event is regarded by many as the biggest and best fireworks competition in the world. The video captures some of the scale of the spectacular fireworks and the excitement of the booming city of Da Nang, Vietnam. Teams from USA, Russia, Japan, Italy and Home Team Da Nang competed in the event with the Melrose Pyrotechnics team from the USA taking the grand prize. A few days ago, I received out-of-print gem The Making of Kubrick’s 2001 (edited wonderfully by Jerome Agel, 1970). I’m still over the moon.

There have been countless words written about Stanley Kubrick’s visionary masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey — some good, some bad — but after 45 years, this superb book remains the only one you’ll ever really need. It is such a shame that this book is out-of-print. It is filled with everything you ever wanted to know about 2001. It leads off with Arthur C. Clarke’s short story “The Sentinel” and closes with a complete reprint of Stanley Kubrick’s interview with Playboy magazine. In between are profiles, interviews with technical advisors, effects secrets revealed, letters to Stanley from the moviegoing public, as well as reviews of the film, both good and bad. A fascinating snapshot of a moment in history when the world was caught off guard by a motion picture. Search your local used book stores, like I did. If you’re a Kubrick fan, it’s worth the effort.

First exterior tests with the Magic Lantern 5D3 Raw firmware. Random clips around Brighton. Captured at 1920 x 720 @25p Carousel shot native camera raw file download: http://bit.ly/Z5oqsq (whilst you can) Graded in Adobe After Effects as DNG sequence and exported as Prores HQ for edit in Adobe Premiere. Shot on a 5Dmk3 with the Canon 70-200mm L IS II / Heliopan Variable ND filter / Transcend 64GB 1000x UDMA 7 & Komputerbay 128GB 1000x UDMA 7. - IR shift is due to the removal of the IR cut filter along side one of the OLP Filters, then by using a variable ND filter. Still early days on the ML hack. Music by Hecq / Red Sky

Thanks for watching my animation! I did it in order to teach myself Cinema 4D and Vray, the renders aren’t perfect but the best I could get out of my machine.
